Italy-based OLT Offshore LNG Toscana has launched its fifth tender in as many years for the peak-shaving service.
OLT is looking for an LNG carrier of 80,000 mᶾ-125,000 mᶾ to deliver LNG during December, to the floating storage and regasification unit FSRU Toscana. OLT will set aside 15,000 mᶾ from those cargoes to meet the terminal’s operational requirements.
Italy’s ministry of economic development established the peak-shaving service as an emergency measure, to secure national energy supply. The winter 2017-2018 plan enables Italy to tap volumes stored at the terminal at short notice, to meet seasonal demand peaks between new year and the end of March.
FSRU Toscana can regasify up to 3.73Bn mᶾ a year, meeting around 4% of Italy’s national requirement. The vessel is moored 22 km off Livorno, connected to the national grid via subsea pipeline.
